Last night we had the chance to meet some very nice drivers from a major carrier. A couple of “trainers” and their “Student drivers” . This story is one told to me by one of the “trainers” .
“The Peterbuilt Ashtrays”
Joey’s dad was a truck driver. He used to take Joey along quite a bit when he was a kid. The roads that they traveled together were mainly in California. Dad told Joey that truckers were not allowed to smoke in their trucks. maybe the company he worked for did not allow it, not really sure what the deal is on that. But anyway, the truck was a shiny red Peterbuilt. It had one of those big intakes on the drivers side. Now Joey noted that he had seen many trucks that had these on both sides but his dad’s truck only had one. As they were rolling down the highway in california one day, Joey’s dad lit up a cigarette. He noticed that dad was holding his hand out the window and asked him why. Dad replied, “we are
not allowed to smoke in the truck in the state of California”. Well, seeing the intake on the drivers side of the truck that just happened to be where Joe’s dad held his hand out the window, Joey thought it was an ash tray and dad never told him any different. It wasn’t until joey went to truck driving school almost a year ago, that Joey finally realized that those air intakes on the side were not ash trays!
Can you imagine Joey saying ” When I get my own truck, I want one of them Peterbuilts that has ash trays on both sides and not just one like dad had” and the looks he must have gotten!
Poor Joey!

Now thats funny. A $3,500.00 dollar ash tray on each side of the truck. Dad must have been pulling a Gas Tanker or a “Hard Shell” back then or like you say it just might of been company policy. But that is funny to grow up thinking that. Good story.
Hope you Have A Great Sunday. Just got a bunch of pictures set to me from my Best Friend at Bob Hurley Ford in Tulsa that we are going to be uploading on our sites today. Drive Safe. Talk to you soon.
