Jasmine Jordan, the Youngest Woman to Run Across the United States
On Tuesday, June 15, 2010, Jasmine Jordan completed her run across America in New York City. Her much anticipated arrival into Time Square was a moment that those who witnessed will never forget. With her parents, Paulette and Lee Jordan and her brother, Levi by her side, she crossed the finish line in tears.
When the day started, Jazzy was glad it was almost over but said she kinda didn’t want it to end. She pointed out that she wants the donations to the St. Christopher Fund to continue so that more truckers can be helped.
Friends and family joined in the parade. Along with her parents, Jazzy’s Grandmother and Brother Levi were also there for support! Others that came in from Minnesota were Shiela Grothe’s husband, Randy Grothe, A nice young man from Jazzy’s school, Mitchell Sterns as well as very close family friends, Dawn and Nikki.
Independent Owner operator, Robert Curran brought along a pilot car and driver as he cheered her on and even ran with her. Bobby Boofay took up the rear of the parade in his white Freightliner Bobtail with Jazzy’s photo and website on it! All the vehicles were donned with American Flags, flashing lights and signs.
As she got closer to the finish line, there were honks, cheers, lots of picture taking and a few even joined in and ran. The press was waiting for her when she arrived in Time Square as were many cheering fans. Chris T from Freewheelin was there to update the truckers on Road Dog Radio. St. Christopher Fund Board member, Jeff Heinrich came in for the event with a big smile and Charlie Morasch from OOIDA’s Landline Magazine was also there covering the event and even ran about 8 miles with Jazzy the day before. There was even a latino magazine “Truckeros” there covering the Big Finish. And yes, let’s not forget “The Naked Cowboy” who joined in briefly with the celebrating!
Watching Jazzy run into Time Square, finishing the journey she started many months ago was an experience none of us will ever forget!
