I was rolling into Memphis going west past where the “cocaine cowboys” sit at. A little rain was falling and it was sorta foggy. I had a light load and was taking my time. Up ahead was a container truck going about 40 miles an hour. Traffic was light so I put on my blinker to shift into the left lane. Behind me, a pickup truck flashed his lights and I proceeded into the left land and hit my marker lights to thank him for the OK to come over.
It only took me a few seconds to come around the slower truck and get back over in the right lane. About this time, the pickup who had let me over, came past and moved in front of me and slowed down. I thought he was going to take an exit so I engaged my blinker again and got back into the left lane. This is when he immediately cut in front of me again and slowed down.
Now I was getting the picture. He had flashed his lights because he was in a hurry and didn’t want me to hinder his progress and now he had some kind of road rage. Seeing this, I got back over in the right lane and guess what? So did he..lol. So, an exit was close by and I knew this situation could only get worse if I engaged him, so I got off the exit and watched as the irate person made his way on down the road. I guess he made his point to me, that he had all the power and had to utilize it to make himself feel better I suppose. It really didn’t bother me, but secretly inside the “inner me” would have liked to put the hammer down right into the back of his little pickup but I think there is some kind of law against highway justice.
This just goes to show that people in four wheelers are very unpredictable and do the stangest things at any given moment. I was glad that I had the experience and judgement to do the right thing in this situation.
Have a safe and productive day.
Jim

I would like to believe I would be as prudent… but that damn testosterome gets the better of everytime !. Buly for you !.
Yes, those 4-wheelers have no clue what goes on in a big truck. Like you, I and thousands of other truckers (if you want to tell the truth) would love to “hammer down into the back of them” at times. But we do not because most of us in a big truck are PROFESSIONAL DRIVERS and do what you did, to prevent more rage. I too have taken exits to get away from a vehicle and then get back on the interstate to continue to my destination.
